At the house, Carrie was studying Arabic over a glass of red tea. Joe was at class, Rose at work, and Mom was attending the funeral of the Tecumseh’s grandfather, a well-respected man, who had seen his time in the Korean and Vietnam wars, a graduate and instructor at West Point.
The day was notably cooler. Everyone stayed indoors and kept mostly quiet.
The rain came at around 4:30 while Mom and the boys drove Collette and Puck back home in the Fit. They dropped off at Shell for a fuel-up while Joe washed the windows, and Mom treated them all to a late-afternoon snack. Then the rain began. A silver wash from the west.
And Carrie was still out hiking the Lewis & Clark Trail with Grewe Freckles.
