Collette was awoken with the usual breakfast call from Puck. This time, they made eggs-in-a-nest, an old favorite from Collette’s childhood, which included a ‘little circle toast’ which had been cut out to accommodate the egg. This was Puck’s favorite part, as it had been when Collette was little. And a side of tomatoes.
The fields were a rich texture those days. Brambles of deep purples and bunches of little dry white flowers, forests of bright goldenrod and miniature evergreens, rolls of straw and high tangles of green and brown grasses…
The morning was for a walk in the cool sunshine, another listening to Call it Courage, Mars Hill sermons, and nothing much more of anything interesting.
The afternoon was for Beatrix Potter, peanut butter toast, jogging, and sorting the mail. Sorting the mail was still one of Puck’s newest interests. But there was little time for it that day, because Rose arrived earlier that evening, having enjoyed her first true day off since March. There was, already, a possible contract awaiting her. But until then…
Now that she was home between contracts, she thought she might take advantage of that situation to finish the antique cabinet in the basement for her apartment. So she had brought an experimental tub of varnish remover.
Puck had been looking forward to the arrival of his aunt.
“We’re gonna watch movies together!” he exclaimed, hearing that it was ‘movie night’.
It was after Puck had gone down to snoozeland, that Collette and Rose were well into Die Hard, and OLeif returned from work, an hour-long rehearsal with Henri for music for the youth retreat later in the month, dinner with Henri, and from the grocery store.
During the film, Rose was busy composing an arrangement of crusts and dripping candle wax into a sculpture of ‘modern art’ on the old Target coffee table.
And OLeif was up till midnight incorporating a sketch from Magnus into a t-shirt for the youth retreat whose theme was, now traditionally, ‘Rock your face off!’
