64 : Happy 32nd!

Oxbear was now 32 years old. We celebrate birthdays big around here:

5:45 alarm.

No breakfast; Oxbear always skips breakfast. Can’t make him eat anything until lunch.

Celebrating in style.

My day with the boys started at the Vermeer’s home, dropping Puck off to hitch a ride to VBS. We stopped to admire the wild baby bunny nest in the backyard before departing.

Cardinal Glennon. Another appointment: ENT to check out those ear tubes.

After we picked Puck up from VBS with a Lunchable for the road, we got home just about in time for another hour of speech therapy.

“Okay, boys,” I gathered them together at 2:30. “I’m going to edit the podcast. Shouldn’t take long. I’ll be in Dad’s office. Stay out of trouble, okay?”

POUND! POUND! POUND! POUND! POUND! Hysterical screaming and laughing. Both boys raced around the house in an endless game of “tag”.

“WAAAAAA!”

“Oh, buddy! I’m sorry! I’m sorry! What happened? MOM! YALI HAS A BLOODY NOSE!”

I paused to sop it up. Nothing too bad. Back to the laptop.

“MOM! IT’S STILL BLEEDING! THE TISSUE WON’T STAY IN HIS NOSE! CAN I JUST PUT A BAND-AID ON IT?”

When I saw my youngest son next, there was a bandage carefully placed over his left nostril, and his left nostril only. The bleeding had also stopped.

About this time I checked in on Oxbear to make sure his birthday was going okay at work. One of the guys had brought him a birthday scone. Things were looking up.

True celebration finally occurred with a Mexican dinner at the Silverspoon’s. Curly and Lulu were back in town for another gig, so there were homemade chips, homemade guacamole, and homemade tostadas on the counter-table for dinner. And for later – homemade key lime pie.

But first, there were gifts – scotch from Curly, Lulu, and Ansel. Wireless headphones from Theodore and Gloria. Made up for the pre-6AM wake-up call.

During the birthday prayer, thunder growled in the southwest. Another one was coming in on the tails of pre-summer heat. Still waiting on the good stuff; hadn’t happened yet.

Birthday Round 1 complete.
