8 : No Chocolate, Mom!
Yali’s eyes lit up over the two Oreos inside his Lunchable as we walked through Schnuck’s together. Tuesday was getting busy and we needed something fast. Puck looked down at him with some minor disdain.
“Don’t you ever pay attention to your health, Yali?”
Yali clearly didn’t care.
Apparently, I didn’t either.
“MOM! NO! No cookies! Don’t even go down that aisle!”
“Mom! No chocolate! You’ve got to get healthy, Mom!”
“No Pepsi! MOM! NO!”
It’s like borrowing a double guilty conscience. Although I’ll admit, the Pepsi is a big rarity for me. I left the store without cookies or chocolate. I make no guarantees on the soda. I let the boys each pick out a fist-sized diecast toy car to soften the blow. Puck was pretty keen on the taco truck.
Meanwhile, Puck had his own habit to deal with. Although this one was a little less of a vice than my chocolate mongering.
“So tempting!” he declared, noting one more grocery cart stall in disarray. “Must fix!”
After his work was completed, he turned to me. “Mom? Could I do this for a job?”
“Sure. Maybe when you’re 16 or so.”
“Would I get paid a lot?”
“Not tons. But it would be a good job to start with.”
“Yeah. But I couldn’t do a family on that though. I’ll need to get a job like Dad.”
