25 JAN 26

We're at about ten inches of fluff and quiet skies waking that morning... quiet streets too...

Watching the recorded church service from Saturday night... Yali snuggles up next to me feeling a little blue... “Yali... what... why is your hair purple?”...

Apparently he'd had some time before church-on-the-couch to color his hair with face paint crayons...

Purple hair is forgotten about during post-service breakfast omelet-scramble as snow gear is hunted for around the house...

And then snow is completely forgotten when my phone rings and it's Puck calling from the fort with all the updates we weren't sure we'd get for weeks... swapped for the trifling news we've got from home (e.g. Patience sharing her dream of designing her bedroom in an outer space theme and how she's making white loaf bread from scratch that afternoon)... until there's a lot of yelling in the background and Puck has to shut things down fast... “I've gotta go”... but twenty-seven minutes of conversation is generous for a first call and no one's complaining...

Then as the thermometer inches upwards towards zero... the kids take about twenty minutes to rake all the rest of their snow gear together for the full twenty minutes they stay out in the white elements...
