Kids all sleep long that morning... Yali probably due to an abnormal amount of packing tape sounds emitting from the other side of the wall later into the watches of the night for reasons I never fully learn... only that... “I was trying to make something and it didn't work!”
By eight o'clock though... Patience is mixing pancake batter in the kitchen...
...they have the day off classes... because it seems almost too cruel to do otherwise on Halloween...
...while I address fun things all day like dishes and laundry... also accidentally committing “a violation of Federal Law” when laundering Puck's insect repellent Army field uniform with civilian clothing... oops...
It's already five o'clock and the five of us are splitting west for the Big House in two separate vehicles loaded with 3D-printed costume pieces and jack 'o lanterns...
...to join the swarming convention of frogs and toads and pirates and turkeys and Russian children's cartoon characters and Snow Whites and Grumpys and mermaids and cowboys including Theodore in a trench coat and live cigar... and also pots of chili and apple cider and boxes of donuts... as a short fire cooks out front on a lightly chilled night... children chasing sugar in exchange for fresh jokes...
