A Few More Things

Puck spent the first part of his morning flattening a Hershey’s treasure wrapper on the kitchen table until it was as smooth as silk. He was so proud of this accomplishment that he continued to extol it while listening to “Adventures in Odyssey”.

“Mom! Look how smooth this is! It’s smoother than paper! Look, Mom, look! Can you believe that?”

The next half of the morning we spent at Target, hunting up gifts for the foster family and various officials/interpreters involved in our adoption. Puck helped me choose flavors for Burt’s Bees and scents for Garden Party candles. He knows his mom’s nose is basically un-operational. A few Cardinals items, two big bags of Lifesavers. We were sort of stabbing in the dark, but they recommended local interest gifts, and you can’t get much more local than Cardinals.

Puck splashed around in Eddie’s and Anna’s wading pool a couple of houses down the street while I went on the hunt for immunization availability, airline tickets, and a whole stack of things I can’t remember. We were still looking at two weeks till launch.

5:45 – St. Charles County Healthy Department.

Saving about $230 in Hep A vaccinations. Oxbear joined us from work, actually beat us to the location as we walked in for our appointment. Puck was clearly becoming uncomfortable, hearing the cries of a young boy in the other room obviously terrified of needles.

“Uh … I don’t think he’s having a good time back there.”

When they brought us back, Puck hung around against the wall for awhile. The nurse was so friendly, though, he warmed up to the situation after a couple of minutes, and suggested an orange band-aid for Oxbear instead of a blue.

Back on the road for home, Puck hitched a ride with Oxbear, who spent the rest of the evening and late into the night writing up position descriptions for work.

Puck had another iPad session as Rose walked through the door. I was in the middle of asking him a question, but he clearly couldn’t process over his current game: “Leopold”. “I’m in tense moments right now, Mom.”

Once he was tucked in for the night, Rose and I hit the game downstairs and a DQ run by the man upstairs: cherry starkiss pop for me and an essential Snicketts kid cookie dough blizzard for Rose.
