A Little Work

In which another day of profitable work is concluded…

So… back to the old office…

Collette was deposited on the doorstep at 7:32, while Puck was delivered over to the Snicketts’ schedule for the day.
Irritation at sloppy handwriting…
Henri and Daisy-Jean arrived after ten in the quiet, half-gray, half-sun of a cold morning. A story from Daisy-Jean about how her second granddaughter had removed the Christmas ornaments from her tree and then blamed it on God.
Turkey and cheddar at noon.
Dark chocolate.
Collette was convinced, now, that she was fully allergic to sugar and gluten.
Babe Ruth dropped in after 1:30 while Daisy-Jean had left for the teacher supply store and lunch.
And Collette was gone by two, picked up by Francis and Linnea in the green slug.

Back on the ranch…
Joe, just returning from work, was off with Brett Grill to check out to some hunting grounds on an island somewhere, but not before informing Carrie that…
“I need that $15 stock to be worth a mil in a few weeks.”
Mom and Carrie were tearing up the kitchen with sweet potatoes, mangoes, cranberries, onions, beets, beef, pasta, and spices, preparing many bags of goulash, curry, Moroccan stew, apple pie pork, etc., for January dinners, as Carrie’s gold Kohl eyeliner arrived in the mail and she figured out various lunch and coffee meetings of the week, rib brace in place over her gray sweatshirt.
Dad was down south regarding the school board position at College of the Ozarks.
Francis had been bowling Tuesday night.
And Linnea was confirming skating plans with the youth group for the following afternoon.
Collette read Peanuts to Puck while he enjoyed an apple juice.

When they returned with OLeif for the evening after five o’clock, Tasha brought by a Hormel meat, cheese, and cracker platter as a Christmas gift. Puck was thrilled. And there were even more treats…
“I brought back cookies from a famous rock star,” said OLeif to Puck, holding up a bag of chocolate cookies, “I work with the saxophone player from The Urge. And his sister made cookies, so he sent some home to you.”
