A New Year

Thursday, January 1, 2009

The very first day of another year. And Collette was feeling sick. So was OLeif. And Puck.
The late morning found them gathered at the Silverspoon’s for the first celebration of the year and the last Christmas gathering of the 2008 season. This meant more presents. As Relevance and Kitts had drawn OLeif’s and Collette’s names, the following was given to them, wrapped in various boxes of shiny red and silver paper: various kitchen utensils (which included mini whisks and mini spatulas), a square black picture frame to add to the photo collection on the walls, dark chocolate Harry and David malt balls, Harry and David dark chocolate bar, and the Teavana box, filled with rooibos chai, matching ceramic tea cups, and the grand center of it all — the silver cast iron tea pot. A very generous entourage.
Puck had not been forgotten. Kitts had found him two books, one of children’s poetry, and one of pop-up characters. And a black super ball. Puck, once again, was very pleased.
After a shaky afternoon for OLeif, who spent part of it asleep with a terrible headache and nausea, he recovered enough to eat some of Kitts delicious apple pie and vanilla ice cream. Then Puck enjoyed some happy moments cuddled next to his Aunt Kitts reading books while everyone watched Elf.
And so the new year had begun.
