A Renaissance Day

Saturday, June 3, 2006

Collette woke that morning to the golden light of Judah’s and Evangeline’s wedding day. She lay there in bed for a little while, listening to the chink of the ceramic bobs on the fan chains above her and feeling somewhat like she had on the morning of her own wedding day. It was the sort of feeling that she thought could never quite be repeated again, and she remembered almost everything about that day, though not quite pieced together in a great whole. Later, she recorded the whole day on paper, but it was not as easy to put it to words.

Meanwhile, it was a day for Renaissance things, old, ancient times…

The wedding, Collette thought, had to be the best of the past nine she had attended over the past two years. But it was the sort of thing that had to be recorded separately, in another document. It took time to account such things. Judah finally got his girl, Evangeline tossed the bouquet to her sister, the church was full of “Wheaties”, Frances danced with Cherry Pie (after leaving briefly to confront Rose and Ben-Hur for teasing him). The song ended after he tried to pull of Ben-Hur’s shoe. Morning doves and Bob whites sang across the green field, and a rainstorm brought a rainbow over the golden field. It was a day to remember.
