Aígina

Izzy’s 14th birthday, and, as usual, he was away at summer camp for it.
Collette tried to pull together preparations for Arkansas during the day while OLeif worked overtime.
And while Collette packed, Puck sat in his bouncy seat making bashful smiles.
Tomorrow would be Puck’s first time to travel out of the state, at nine weeks old. He was a trooper. Collette imagined that he would sleep most of the way there, despite the fact that he was often mesmerized by new sights.
Meanwhile, Collette spent some time reading of Greek islands, namely, Aígina (named after the daughter of the river god) where pirates once roamed, the Turks and the Venetians fought for ownership of the small island, and the first silver coin mint in Europe was established. It had also, at one time, originally been the first modern capital of Greece. A big responsibility for such a tiny island.
OLeif arrived home from work at ten that night and fixed himself a beer and a plate of nachos with mozzarella, salsa, and sour cream. Another long day at work.
His hair was beginning to grow again, a dark peach-fuzz patch.
Collette patted his head, “It kind of feels like… reminds me of a wheat field. For ants.” She thought aloud.
Collette continued to rub the top of his fuzzy head.
“You’re destroying the crops,” OLeif said in a tiny high-pitched ant-voice. “Oh, no! All of our monies! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee!”
“Wow, I didn’t know your voice went that high,” Collette laughed. “Silly boy.”
And in only four short days, Carrie-Bri and Eve would be on that plane headed over the blue Pacific. The prospect of travel – something somewhat thrilling about it every time.
