Alas, Alack the Silver-Lined Day

Saturday, January 7, 2006

[9:17am] Collette happened to sleep into 9:12 that morning (the time being the same weight of Frances at his birth). She had been mortally tired and such was the remedy – nearly ten hours of sleep. She was awakened by the sound of OLeif springing out of bed, who had forgotten his nine o’clock meeting with Devin (an old friend from Stallone’s) at Starbucks, which had been scheduled two weeks beforehand.

It was the first day of the Ice Skating Championships in St. Louis, which would last till the 15th of January. Collette imagined downtown would be more heavily populated for the next week, as a result. And while they prepared to do some serious mixing and twirling on the ice, Collette was at the apartment working on papers and cleaning while she listened to four sermons from Pastor Marshall and Johnny O.

And according to Rose, (whom Collette had just called), Friday was spent at “The Tombs of Ur” for Rose and Pizza Street afterwards for Joe and Rose (both of whom were along with the church home school group for the day). And Mom had painted the dining room a “creamish” color, also according to Rose, who was just getting ready to leave for Annamaria’s, where they (along with Lollipop) would play games together. Meanwhile, Carrie-Bri was soon off to work and Frances was (with all the enthusiasm he could contain) going to spend the afternoon with his red-headed pal, Izzy.

And it was that same fateful night that Carrie found herself on the nine-ish silver-lined cloud of being added to Ernest January’s facebook friend-list. He was already taken, however, by a sweet brown-haired girl attending culinary school in New York. Alas, alack the day, for woe would Carrie be.

We can be confident in the ways of Providence even when they are far from our understanding. Events are not moved by blind change and chance. Behind all of life and all of history there’s a dedication and purpose set by the hand of a just and faithful God. And that hope will never be shaken.” – President George W. Bush
