Another Round of Good Fun

It was a fragmented day for Collette.

Back at the house, the day was split up oddly in order that Rose could spend three hours in training at Subway. And Joe was washing cars. Carrie was trying to appeal her university to allow her to take on eighteen credit hours per semester in her masters classes.

Oh, I’m so bored!” She exclaimed at around nine in the morning. “And I’ve already done five lessons of math and three lessons in Arabic.”

Later, she found some solace in fighting Joe over a laundry hamper in order to slide down the basement steps, standing inside.

Carrie, no, you’re going to kill yourself!” Joe was holding onto the other end of the basket.

No, I’m going to do it,” Carrie insisted. “Let go!”

Joe soon found himself laughing hard enough to let go of the other end, and down she went with a thud, thud, thud. No injuries, just a good slide down the stairs.

Meanwhile, Mom had enjoyed her ladies’ tea the night before, which included a fashion show and prizes. (Mom won prizes at every party she attended – it was a given).

I don’t know,” she said. “I don’t know what it is. But I always know when I’m going to win something.”

Mom,” Carrie grinned slyly, “you and I are going to take a trip down to the convenience store later today. We are going to buy what we call… a lotto ticket.”

But Mom had won another prize the evening before – a mint-scented body care set, which Mom said that Collette should take home with her.

Hey!” Carrie said, offended. “How come Collette always gets everything?”

It’s because I don’t live here anymore,” Collette laughed.

But in the end, Collette insisted that she didn’t need the set and Carrie happily opened the box to smell the sweet scents.

That evening, Mom and Collette were able to get over to Trader Joe’s for the week while OLeif and Rose were with the junior high at SkyZone.

However, OLeif returned with an injury to his knee, the joint of which had popped out and then back in again after a particularly crippling jump. After the event, OLeif and Collette drove back Creole and Marcus Bee as OLeif and Creole were trying to convince Marcus that White Castle had great burgers and chicken rings.

Dude, everything’s awesome at White Castle,” Creole said, which seemed to settle the issue.

The boys were brought home. Shortly later after dropping by Walgreen’s for a bandage for OLeif’s knee and their credit card was denied, Collette began to become suspicious. Five minutes later, she realized that her wallet was not in her bag. And with a little sickening feeling, she could not recall removing her wallet from the cart at the grocery store.

After looking through the cars and the bags, calling Mom to check in the van, calling the wrong Trader Joe’s, the credit company, looking online to find that her card had been canceled… they finally got in contact with the right people. Trader Joe’s had found her wallet in the cart and had immediately canceled her card in order to prevent fraud.

Collette hadn’t done something quite that stupid in awhile, and she thanked God that no one had run off with it, like they had with her bag two years before.

It was an eventful end to another day.
