Another Trip to Olga's
On another morning of frost, everyone piled into the mini van to pick up Grandma Snicketts for lunch at Olga’s, where Rose had just arrived to serve.
On the way through the mall, Puck took a ride sitting on Grandma’s walker. He was very happy with this, and pointed out everything to her as they passed the stores.
“I have my very own tour guide up here,” said Grandma, laughing.
The Snicketts family was getting used to the Olga’s menu, as was Puck. He immediately chowed into the fries and Olga bread, calling at each server who passed.
“Hi!” he’d say, squinting his eyes at them in friendly smiles.
Around the table, they were finally able to give Grandma her belated birthday present — a jigsaw puzzle from National Geographic featuring a road map surrounding her home.
“Oh, how nice,” said Grandma. “I’ll just have to make sure none of the other ladies steals it when we’ve put it together. They do that, you know.”
Just before they left, another baby was placed in a high chair down the aisle. Puck was very interested, and smiled.
“Baby! Hi! Bye!” he’d say.
Later that afternoon, Carrie made Ethiopian fried snacks with red pepper for their Office evening while Collette and Francis wrote a book together of political satire.
That night, the sky burned in rose fire.
And Francis called Collette to request use of her old vacuum cleaner. He wanted the engine.
