April 22

Somewhere in Africa, on Earth Day, it was Mollie McCrae’s 19th birthday.

It was time for another walk to the library.

When they arrived, the kind gentleman who drove the van from branch to branch showed Puck the button that opened the doors on their own.

It’s magic,” he told him.

And Puck felt very important pressing the second button. Then he marched out the door and set two Magic School Bus books on the counter.

Well, hello,” the librarian greeted him.

I don’t want those books anymore,” he said matter-of-fact. “I’m gonna go get some more books now.”

Two hours and a box of raisins later (eaten outside while watching two hawks chase each other over the field), Puck left the library with a small stack of items, which included a Wallace & Grommit.

After a long snooze for Puck, outside for sidewalk chalk, soccer, and reading books on the porch. Then a bath… the usual sort of Thursday. But it was an even better Thursday. Because just as Puck’s bath had ended and he was wrapped up in blankets on the couch, the rain began to fall. A beautiful, light gray rain. And so they read Rain together.

By 5:30, Rose had arrived just in time for French toast. And then OLeif half an hour later, after which he read Puck his new shadow story book.

And another night of true hilarity once Carrie and Joe had come, which included cookies ‘n cream ice cream.

It all wrapped up with the continuing fall of rain in the night.
