April 9

“I know how to get myself really awake,” Francis was saying. “All you do is stick a Q-tip up your nose, tickle it, then sneeze. And you’re awake.”
Linnea was tying up her stuffed kangaroo with Carrie’s make-up wipes for bandages.
Around eleven o’clock, Carrie and Lucia went shopping for Lucia’s one-day-a-year “mental health” day from NAWS, shortly after everyone discussed having a Bosnian seminary student live with them for a month that spring.
Puck rummaged in the pantry. He found Carrie’s box of purple passion tea. Collette confiscated it before any damage could occur. Already, three times that day, Puck had knocked over three containers of liquid: two glasses of water and one carton of apple juice. When Collette found him, he was happily sitting in the middle of the puddle, splashing his legs in the mess and giggling at himself.
Denae dropped by late in the afternoon for her “Puck fix” and let him chew on her car keys.
“Snack!” Puck thought to himself and smiled.
