Around the Rings

“The French said they were going to smash us in the swimming race,” Linnea said. “And we smashed them!”
And creamed the world record by almost four seconds for the men’s relay. Michael Phelps had his second gold, onward to hopefully tie with Mark Spitz for nine.
And the crew was back from a fun week in Iowa. Linnea had a swimmer’s ear and lounged on the couch that morning, waiting for Mom, Collette, and Puck to bring back her prescription from the drugstore.
Lucia had sent word back from the Motherland. Fish and chips and the change of the guard had already been crossed off their to do list.
Francis left for the afternoon with Puff ‘o Lump and Creole for the movies. Joe was at his first day of work again at the Green Lantern before heading off to the Hobcoggin’s for an evening pool party. And Rose returned later that afternoon from a trip to the City Museum with most of the crew and Lolli’s cousin, Attila Capps. Later, she joined Augustus and Erasmus at Collette’s and OLeif’s for ginger ale, sour gummy worms, and Robinson Crusoe on Mars.
The Olympic fanfare, as usual, was giving Collette goosebumps every evening. Two things managed to do that on a regular basis: the Olympics and fighter jets. After a renewed attempt at the jog, she returned for another evening of Olympic rings.
