At Home

Thursday, August 7, 2008

Collette and Puck were home for the day. Under the cool fan in the living room they read books together. Puck propped himself on the pillow in front of Collette, who was lying on her stomach on the rug. He put his soft baby arm around her neck and smiled back to her happily.
At his high chair for lunch, Puck peeked inside his little container of cantaloupe as though it were a treasure box. The pale crisp gems winked back at him in cold dew. He looked carefully at them and chose a piece before chewing it thoughtfully.
He had two bubble baths that day. Another favorite pastime accompanied with his entourage of rubber ducks in the kitchen sink.
The day was quiet, spent inside the air-conditioned house. And when Collette returned from her walk that evening, OLeif brought her a candy bar while she watched Christy.
