At Home

In which life returns as normal…
Although it was back to reality that Tuesday morning, it was a nice reality.
Mom and the kids arrived for the usual tutoring session.
Collette spent the unused part of her day on researching initial contracts and memorizing Dad’s resume, catching up on current manuscripts, and the usual chores of keeping a small house clean and meals on the table.
During Linnea’s Portuguese, Puck sat on Collette’s lap, having amused himself with a tiny stapler, sans staples, for the past while.
“Come on, Mama!” he said quietly.
“What’s that, Puck?”
“No, I’m talking to the little people inside of the stapler.”
Not long later, Mom and Linnea departed for Mom to attend her two o’clock dental appointment. Crown-replacements were in order.
And Francis left at a later time for choir.
Purple crocus were in bloom.
The windows were open to the 50’s.
And while there were no immediate plans to move to the city, OLeif and Collette had enjoyed looking at various homes on the market the previous afternoon, including an old brick and stone in Clayton. Collette was sold more on the fact that it was in the same neighborhood that housed the Little Flower Convent, and the Little Flower Catholic Church and the Little Flower School.
An hour walk in the afternoon.
Phone call regarding advice for teaching in the fall…
Dinner and catechism. Things were humming along…
“Puck, can you see God?”
“No — I cannot see God, but he can always see… Saturn.”
Then other thoughts from Puck…
“Your daughter can tell you what to do.”
“I don’t have a daughter,” Collette replied.
“Daddy is your daughter.”
“He’s my husband.”
“Your husband can tell you what to do.”
Meanwhile, OLeif had given a successful presentation at class with a fellow classmate, in which his professor thought that OLeif had a great deal of previous experience teaching, before returning to work for an additional hour and a half. And then home for a brief touch-base for the week meeting with Collette.
Tuesdays were about the mundanity of responsibilities.
