Attending to Things

“Ma-ma! Ma-ma!”
That was how Puck usually woke Collette those days, calling from his crib like a little Italian Stromboli.
He spent the day as usual, stacking water bottles and shoes on tables, building cardboard block towers, pushing around a laundry basket with his stuffed donkey and bunny, and sweeping the kitchen. He seemed to enjoy himself pretty well.
Rose stopped in for lunch of cheddar quesadillas and blood oranges before returning to her second successful day on the job.
Outside, there had been signs of spring for the past week. The purple of crocuses pushing up past the several inches of rotted autumn leaves, and the thick green leaves of tulips, not yet bloomed.
As OLeif had been working till 3:30 that morning, he crashed for a nap at 6:30 that evening, while Collette watched a documentary narrated by Audrey Hepburn on gardens of the world, and attended to other matters over hot fruit tea and laundry.
