Curly was back in town again.

But first, errands, while catching up on the latest travel essay: Vietnam.

Post office — ship back a pair of Converse that were too small for Puck.

Honda — oil change, or lack thereof, given the two and a half hour wait…

Dierberg’s — flowers for Gloria. White mums. Puck held them carefully in his lap.

Open, flower,” he said quietly to one of the buds. “I’m tellin’ that little flower to open.”

As soon as they walked in the door at the Silverspoon’s, Puck consumed the bacon. It just vanished. So Izzy made more. And then OLeif made even more.

Meanwhile, the whole family was gone, or leaving, for their nutritionist appointments. Including OLeif. He was interested, or rather, not so very interested, because he was OLeif and didn’t worry about anything, to know that he had a little dude hanging out in his pancreas. So he was instructed to stay away from bread, pasta, pizza, potatoes, sweets, bananas, apples, grapes, and oranges, until the little stowaway packed up and shipped out.

In the afternoon, Collette waited two and a half hours at the dealership, the abnormal length partly dictated by the fact that she had forgotten her wallet, and Curly had to bring it up for her. While she waited, she journaled, ignored the baskets of complimentary Oreos and chips, the hot popcorn popper, and the fridge of equally free Pepsis and Coca-Colas, and half-listened to the litany of television blips which included: French chefs dolling out elegant desserts, travel tips for visiting Yellowstone, twins delivered via C-section, big game hunting in Namibia, and then she finally saw Curly walk past the glass wall as the latest segment, Cheaters, aired on the screen.

And upon return to the Silverspoon’s, Puck was found sandwiched between his uncles, just up from a nap, watching Little Bear, after which he watched Curly take apart and fix Collette’s broken Macbook.

Then Theodore returned shortly later to load a fridge into a U-Haul pick-up with OLeif’s help.

And not long later, Gloria and Curly left to clothes shop.

So it was a rather unconventional sort of Saturday… but things had to be done.
