August 25

Another quiet day… Only Moses and Judah made lengthy appearances. Moses worked in the basement all day. And Judah left early, feeling rather poorly, or ‘fuzzy’, as he called it. So there was nothing to do but to type, print, take calls, make calls, and send messages.

Meanwhile, Puck had been having a grand day with his Sun. They had involved themselves in working on all sorts of fun projects.

This included a set of clay objects that Carrie had created, and then baked, and shellacked: an egg colored purple, green, and yellow in 17th century tie-dye (the sort of marbled effect printed on the inner cover of books from that century), a pretzel, a bright orange pumpkin complete with delicate leaves and a squiggly green vine, and a yellow Lotus car, which Puck insisted on taking to bed with him that night.

They also made soft sugar cookies with orange and black sprinkles incorporated. Puck had one for dessert. A rarity for the little fellow.

And there was a viewing of Mr. Rogers for lunch.

When Carrie and Puck picked up Collette from the office, Collette could already see Puck’s big grin through the window.

Mama!” he cried, when she opened the door. “I missed you so much! Don’t ever leave me again!”

And he put his chubby arms around her neck. Carrie explained that Puck was convinced that, after two, five-hour workdays at the office, his mama now lived there.

Back home, Puck and Collette read a stack of devotional children’s books from the Seventh Day Adventists, an old set from when Collette was a kid. Puck listened attentively, watching the pen and ink illustrations carefully, occasionally asking questions. He was such a squishy, even as a ‘big boy’ now, no longer a baby. His legs were a mess: scars, bug bites, bruises, scratches, smudges… he was three. And he was a boy.

After Puck was down to saw logs, Collette, because OLeif was out with his buddies, made a quesadilla for herself, with apple-pomegranate juice, and listened to, at Dad’s recommendation, John MacArthur’s sermon series on Heaven.

But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
which shines brighter and brighter until full day.

~ Proverbs 4:18
