Schedules were changing again. Collette and Puck were home for three days.
And Puck’s play microphone that had been in his ‘happy bag’ from from the previous afternoon had been forgotten at the house. So at breakfast, Puck thought carefully of what to say in a note to his dad.
“‘Dear Daddy, pick up my microphone, to… please.’”
He thought about this for a little while longer and wanted to start over.
“‘Dear GOD and Daddy, please give me my microphone, to… please.’ Could I read God and Daddy again?” he asked.
He grinned. There was still a cut on his lip and on his cheek from having collided with Sebastian over the weekend. Rough and tumble critter…
Out to the library under the jagged gray rolls of autumnal skies. Books on hermit crabs, clouds, and pancakes… And examining the light poles that had snapped, exactly like toothpicks, in the big storm…
The rain began to fall after twelve.
A note from Puck’s Sunday School teacher had been clipped on the fridge:
“Puck, I hope you always learn your voice through God. If you do, you’ll always be a smarty and God’s little creature. Love you sweet Puck.”
Movie night.
Rose arrived before 5:30, a fast time, and then to chow down on a bowl of chocolate over The Thin Man. OLeif returned with grocery sacks of tea, eggs, rice, peanuts, yogurt, grapes, blueberries, celery, and seltzer water, before charging out the door for a brief photo shoot of a couch made of telephone books. And then back for the double feature.
