August 7

The day began with sorting old baby clothes, piecing together photos as the last bits of the adoption dossier were coming together, and serving up breakfast to a little man who found it necessary to awaken at no later than 5:32 that morning.

Puck was also reluctant to give up his ‘mow’.

Could I have my mow, Mama, so I can go, ‘mmm mmm mmm mmm’?” he asked.

(‘Mmm mmm mmm’ was what he said when cuddling Donkey. Rather, it was what Donkey said.)

Collette said ‘not now’, and read Calvin to him instead.

He’s such a punk,” Puck said, laughing at Calvin’s antics.

Puck was busy devouring bacon at the Silverspoon’s, and shortly later, spears of watermelon. Until his nana returned with piles of new library books, groceries to make paninis and spicy kettle-cooked potato chips, and a tub of cookies and cream ice cream.

Then, he was reluctantly obliged to take a nap. First, he asked, as usual, for a ‘story with no book’, meaning a story of Collette’s own creation. But he was still not quite resigned to the covers. Why sleep when one could do so many other interesting things? But the Z’s called, and Puck finally answered them.

The week had suddenly decided to cool itself. A little. Friday had been just 88 degrees. And, unfortunately, no rain in sight. Yet by mid-week, it was proposed to be 99 degrees again.

Puck was busy pantry-rummaging after his nap, under his nana’s supervision.

Could I have some more junk?” Puck asked, after having been served some more watermelon.

Clearly he was confused just as to the actual definition of ‘junk’.

Then Izzy and Puck played Wrap-Puck-up-in-a-big-Blanket-and-lug-him-Around-the-House, which Puck thought was very funny.

In the afternoon, first, to buy Puck a new pair of black Chucks with OLeif’s employee discount. Puck was pleased to know they would be coming to his house soon.

Then a call from the dealership to say that the Civic would be in the shop through Monday. The circumstances were possibly dire…

Around four o’clock, Gloria read books with Puck while she and Theodore skimmed through a DVD lecture on the dangers of mercury fillings in teeth.
