Back From Welch
It was good to have OLeif, Joe, and Rose back in town. Rose spent part of her morning sifting through photos from the trip. OLeif and Collette were on their way to Puck’s doctor’s appointment, and were in the waiting room, when OLeif was called away to a work emergency. Puck left the appointment with bright orange and yellow band-aids over his war wounds where they met Mom in the waiting room who would escort them back to the house.
Francis and Linnea were spending the day at Six Flags with the Creek family.
And while Rose kept an eye on the happy chubby, Collette accompanied Mom and Joe on various errands.
Earlier, Rose was talking about the trip.
“Augustus was reading a book on organic foods, and he was getting really hungry. So when we drove through Amish land, he said, ‘I’m so hungry, I could eat the Amish!’. Then I said, ‘Well, at least they’re organic.’”
“We ate so much bad stuff,” said Joe. “We walked down to the gas station and got a lot of stuff. Augustus got so much junk. Like, thousands of calories…”
“Yeah,” agreed Rose. “He’s gonna die.”
“The town reminded me of Grenada,” OLeif had told her earlier about Welch, West Virginia. “Homes built almost on top of each other in the hills.”
After looking at the pictures, Collette agreed.
OLeif received a treat from the owner of the company that morning.
“The most expensive coffee I’ve ever tasted,” he said. “$180 per pound.”
Not only was the price tag high, but the coffee grounds had passed through the bowels of a luwak, (a relative of the mongoose), before being brewed. The strange things for which people paid money…
