Books & Bread
Tuesday, January 10, 2012
Another cold morning of sun, though not freezing; highs were to be in the mid-50’s. It was just one of those strange winters. Meanwhile, Puck perused his expanding collection of The Berenstain Bears over his buttered toast, following the first course of banana and cup of milk. Studies continued in four chunks: three in the morning and one reserved for the afternoon. It was sometimes nice to have consecutive days of very much the same thing. Another round of brown rice bread in the bread machine. The Lost Stories of Dr. Seuss. OLeif’s Icelandic-style motorcycling socks arrived from the “VBS man”. And Classical music to round out the morning.
Lunch commenced with Puck having further thoughts about the end of all things and such in all matter-of-fact-ness…
“Once when you are safe up with God…”
“Well, Mama. Rules are rules. We have to die at the end of the world…”
And further into the afternoon, some good Scottish bagpipes and readings about the Titanic, which Puck had found particularly interesting that week.
Grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner. Another five chapters of Revelation read aloud. Happy Hollisters, of course. And prayers with the growing corn-silk haired little man. And apparently OLeif just couldn’t help himself. He returned with Dairy Queen delights: blizzards in all their glory. Midnight Truffle for Collette. And Oreo Peanut Butter Cup & Banana for OLeif. Meanwhile, that same gentleman was hankering for a hair cut. He had just been told by a young family at church that their youngest daughter had seen OLeif one Sunday and…
“Jesus!”
And in other news, Justus of Orange was to be married on August 11th during the Olympics, just like OLeif and Collette… eight years ago…
“Our prayer for Jesus’ return isn’t foremost a prayer for the end of the world but a prayer for the culmination of world history.”
