In which things are made and things are read…

The sun was back in full force.
Not that it hadn’t been already the previous afternoon, once the rain had begun to clear. But it was officially back to heatwave. 90’s for the next full week.

The day began with a text from Rose, discovering that OLeif had missed Steve Martin playing at Fair St. Louis the previous evening.

To the library, where…
Puck started off his reading selection with a Reading Rainbow favorite, Tar Beach.
He made friends with a little boy and taught him his colors.
He also found the Spanish bull hand puppet amongst the others stashed in a laundry basket beneath the children’s book bin.

Home.
Baked cod.
Watermelon.

During QH, Puck listened to his Bible on CD. Jonah was up. Puck listened as the sailors threw their possessions overboard.
“That didn’t stop the storm,” said Puck thoughtfully. “God didn’t stop it then. They shouldn’t have done that, or else they will starve to deaf [death].”

Afternoon events afoot in the kitchen…
Pork chops: Worcestershire sauce, paprika.
Vanilla ice cream [purple].
Burgers.

OLeif returned on his bike at 7:10.
Puck was taking awhile to fall asleep. Collette read Ballykissangel to him, while he laid there, thinking, and asking the occasional question. Almost all applied to the story until…
“There’s something poking in my stomach, Mama.”
“What is it?”
“A nail inside there, maybe… ‘Member when I swallowed one of Daddy’s earphone things when I was a baby?”
“You might have. I’m not sure. How did you remember that?”
“Well… I like to tell the tale of it.”
