Buddy H. & The King

Sunday, June 26, 2005

It was Rose’s fifteenth birthday that day. And as last year, they had all attended the Elvis Concert the night before at Jefferson Barracks. There, where Civil War soldiers had once drilled, and just beyond the field of thousands of white stones, Elvis, Buddy Holly, and all the others, performed. It was brilliant as usual.

Uncle Mo rattled off all the music statistics from the songs, and who sang what, when, which year, which month, etc. Aunt Petunia told them about how wonderfully her new job had gone, as her first day had just been Friday. And Grandma had brought chicken for everyone. OLeif snapped nearly two hundred pictures of the performance. And Carrie-Bri and Rose spent the entirety of the concert up in the front.

Elvis handed out scarves during his songs, and Grandma even wore the blue one she had purchased the June 26th the year before. Carrie had already collected two scarves from previous concerts and a pair of dice which he had tossed out during “Viva Las Vegas”.

Elvis night was another one of those special evenings of the year, which seemed to have begun as a tradition, particularly for Carrie. After all, Elvis was “it” in her book, as everyone knew.
