Busy Bees

Sundays could sometimes be odd. On that particular Sunday it pretty much went: OLeif dropped off Collette and Puck at the house, went back home because he forgot his violin, arrived at church for the tail-end of practice, played music for the children’s Sunday School, taught Senior High Sunday School, Collette and Puck came to church with Joe, service and communion (while OLeif watched Puck in the atrium during the sermon), Collette and Puck returned to the house for Collette to feed Puck lunch while OLeif attended a Sunday School leader’s meeting after church, picked up Collette and Puck, then drove over to the Silverspoon’s for lunch while Puck napped, then home… That was not an atypical scenario.

In the meantime, Rose stayed home with Linnea, who was feeling a little under the weather. And because Collette and Puck had again joined the family early that Sunday morning, there was a viewing of an old Wishbone episode. Ah, the good old days.

“I don’t think Wishbone is an entirely appropriate program to be watching on a Sunday morning,” said Dad, putting on his suit coat.

“Oh, it’s just Wishbone, Dad,” they said.

Not completely sacrilegious anyway. Only a dog dressed up as Ivanhoe. Now, maybe if he had been dressed up as Jesus…

After the service, while Collette and Puck waited at the house for OLeif to return from his meeting, Rose lounged on the couch in her pajamas.

“You never changed?” Collette asked her.

“Why would I?” Rose grinned. “And I’ve been cleaning my laptop today. No more fingerprints.”

This was evidenced by the armada of cleaning supplies and roll of paper towels still sitting on the coffee table. Meanwhile, Mom was lecturing Rose on how to be lady-like.

“I am too lady-like,” said Rose. “Look, I painted my fingernails pink!”

Puck was busy slapping his palms on the top of Rose’s laptop and squealing happily.

It was lasagna over at the Silverspoon’s, and while Puck napped, a viewing of “Ratatouille”. This also came with a serving of apple pie and Cool Whip. Puck later came out to play and soon had toys strewn all over the living room. He giggled on Curly’s lap with his apple juice while Denae fed him a steady stream of Cheerios and sweet potato stars.

By the end of the day, Collette was happy to know that OLeif would not need to lead the Guys’ Discipleship that night after all. It was a quiet evening at home.

And Frances’ team had won their basketball game Saturday night – 30 to 15 – according to Linnea. First victory.
