Busy Times, Busy Days

Sunday, May 20, 2007

There was usually a let-down after a packed-full weekend. Sunday involved the usual, although the Elders were back in town for the morning service.

“Congratulations!” Joe the Elder had told OLeif. “Well, my little girl is three months old now. So I guess it’s about time to start the prearranged marriage plans. Which means that you get to set up… oh, shoot, no. I have to set up the dowry.”

And, surprise, surprise, Joe the Elder had an earring.

“Yeah, he’s going for that Mr. Clean look,” OLeif explained.

Collette still sometimes thought she liked the idea of OLeif getting an earring as well. It somehow seemed to fit him. Maybe because of the tattoos.

And Scott Hamilton Pie’s brother was baptized that morning.

OLeif and Collette played hooky at the congregational meeting and ended up at the Silverspoon’s for pizza casserole and a viewing of Charly. Puck had his share of being passed between Nana and Aunt Kitts during the strawberry shortcake.

It also seemed as though Rose’s language of “cat” had worn off a bit.

“Here, fatty fat fat,” Curly called to the tubby orange one.

But the fat one soon escaped to his comrade on the deck for a good lick-down in the sun.

“What is this, the bath house?” Denae laughed at them from the kitchen.

The evening wrapped up with Linnea performing as Shem’s wife in 100% Chance of Rain at church, the finale musical of the year.

And Puck, of course, was passed around again, staring rapturously at windows and lights, frowning in concentration.

“Yep, he has OLeif’s funny faces and Collette’s eyebrow,” Carrie said about the little dude.

The days were busy, followed with a reprieve on Monday for Collette and Puck.
