Ch. 142; Vol. 10

Bomb.

The entire contents of Linnea’s room had been spread throughout the dining room and living room while her floors were being de-carpeted and redone.

Everyone was running around and needed cars. Dad and Joe were long gone. Francis was training at the Rec-Plex before he and Linnea left for the choir picnic. Carrie was working at Theodore’s office. I had to meet Ivy for lunch before activities at church that night.

“If ever I needed a revolving door…” said Mom.

Linnea walked sleepily through the kitchen with a plate of reheated tacos and a goblet of milk. At 9:41. While Puck was hard at work with phonics…

“Girls have dopey dreams. Did you know that, Mom?”

He was clearly paying attention to his lesson…

It was not long later that Carrie texted me – the big green had broken down outside one of Gloria’s favorite consignment shops. Mr. Plum rescued, and returned them. Carrie had to forget about work.

“Ahg,” Carrie walked in the door. “It smells like death in here.”

“That’s Ferdinand,” Linnea explained.

“The plant?” I asked.

She nodded, “He’s having some issues right now.”

Mom ironed Francis’ robe and stole…

“Five down.”

One to go.

Carrie began varnishing Linnea’s bed in shiny black.

So then Francis didn’t make it back in time from drug testing and a physical, so I had to cancel lunch with Ivy. And then he didn’t make it back until even later, so he and Linnea missed the first hour of their choir picnic party. Then the bed post fell over on the patio and spilled black varnish on the cement. Carrie found a beetle infestation in the baking pantry. And Snuggles killed another vole…

“What a day…” Carrie groaned, walking back onto the patio for another coat of varnish.

Puck walked around with the Ruckus helmet on his head all afternoon, which made his cheeks look particularly squishy. Every time he saw Carrie come over to squeeze them, he slammed down the visor…

“I’m gonna get you eventually, Puck…”

“NO, SUN!”

Puck biked a lot, in endless cycles, up and down, around and back. Getting happier and happier with his progress.

Francis and Linnea returned from the park. Mud spots splattered Francis’ back…

“How was the party?” Mom asked.

Francis grinned, “I chased a goose.”

And so Puck missed out on Carrie’s breaded eggplant lasagna because church was holding a pizza party for the kids and a dessert social for everyone after classes for the final Wednesday night of the season.
