Cherry Arrives

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Wednesday morning began with word that Joe had reached Colorado the previous night, completing the first day of two on the road.

And Strawberry was on television, demonstrating aerials at her Bumbershoot studio for the local Fox station.

The rest of the morning was for the sandbox, books, Carrie-Bri’s meeting with Paige Popp for ‘breakfast’ at the Chocolate Cafe, and last-minute preparations for Cherry’s arrival. Plus the usual genealogy, which now included saints, somehow, and bishops.

At eleven o’clock, Cherry and her parents arrived. Mom drove her parents to the airport while the girls got busy with the first of their plans for the week-full of activities:

Wednesday: gymnastics and youth group party at Pizza Street

Thursday: choir and swing band party

Friday: Omnimax at the Science Center to see Tahiti Wave with Grandma Combs

Saturday: youth group Jamaica trip car wash fundraiser and The Botanical Gardens

Sunday: church and the Boathouse and picnic in Forest Park

Meanwhile, during Puck’s nap, Collette and Carrie-Bri hit the shops for a few necessary items for the summer. Clothes shopping was rare for Collette, but jeans and a few tops were in order. Carrying around a baby for three years had managed to elicit a variety of fabric holes.

And while at Plato’s Closet…

Anyone know of any Snicketts in the house?”

It was good old Jesses James from the choir years, back around a decade. And his wife of eleven months. They caught up quickly on their various current events, which included Jesse working on his Masters at Lindenwood. Always an easy conversationalist and a pleasant guy. Collette liked to see people stay where their roots were and enjoy their lives there.

Back at the house, Carrie-Bri got out the hair dye boxes from a quick run-by Walgreen’s. It had been awhile. And soon both she and Collette had darker locks.

Meanwhile, Puck was outside calling to his Uncle Francis, “Follow me! Follow me! I’ll take you to the Milky Way! I’m going too far away on a long trip!”

Then Francis took off down the road with Creole and Puff ‘o Lump to the bridge, where they would be meeting the girls for a bike ride, after which they returned for the usual go-carting and conversation.

That night, after family worship and mowing the front lawn before the next onslaught of rain, OLeif left for another important RedMapp meeting, while Collette saw to preparing curried fajitas for next night’s dinner, dishes, laundry, sermons, and a season finale of Modern Family.
