Christmas Happenings
Grandma Combs arrived mid-morning for a day of fun. This included gifts for Collette. Not only was she given a card with a generous check, but a bag with an embroidered journal and note cards, a box of fruit marzipans, two tiny silver antique teaspoons from Texas, and a carton of raspberry sorbet. Grandma always knew what to get.
Then Carrie mixed a batch of red and green dark chocolate M’nM cookies from the bags that Grandma had brought over, just as a large pile of boxes arrive in the mail. One of these housed Carrie’s second surprise Dr. Who action figure.
This was followed with another round of Dr. Who after Francis’ algebra. Collette finally finished the third season just as Puck’s nap had ended.
When Rose returned from work, she dove into the large box from Urban Outfitters sitting on the coffee table, which included a ceramic red and white plate to add to her apartment collection, and a desktop sand garden with a garbage dump theme. She happily arranged the synthetic garbage piles in the box of brown sand until she and Joe left to spend the evening with friends and pizza.
That evening, Grandma and Mom departed for the Fox Theater to see The Rockettes, who were in town, and then to a steak dinner before joining Collette and Carrie at Memorial for The Hanging of the Greens and Kayak’s. There, Collette learned that poinsettias were a tropical flower native to Mexico, and represented the Star of Bethlehem. Her birth flower.
The Christmas season was dashing ahead.
