Christmas Lights
Before they lifted the Puck out of his crib that morning, Collette set up the two small Christmas trees in the living room. One was their first tiny tree, purchased four years ago. The other had just been given to them from Grandma Combs, filled with sparkling multi-colored L.E.D. lights.
Puck took in the color and Christmas music as he emerged from his bedroom, pointing with a whisper of “Hot, hot!”
The trees seemed to be a hit.
Puck did not have a happy bath time that morning, spouting tears at the idea of submerging himself in a happy bubbly pool. The bubbles, did, however, make him happy. He scooped them up in his chubby paws and tried to send them overboard.
At the Silverspoon’s, Izzy was busy setting up Christmas decorations. He was later joined by Curly outside, to string the twinkly lights on the house while listening to 50’s tunes on the iPod deck in the lawn.
Denae had brought home pizzas to put in the oven for lunch.
And Puck was very interested in the plastic banana from one of the great’s cornucopia sitting on the kitchen table, saying, “Nanu, nanu!”
Theodore was power-stapling white trim around the ceiling off and on throughout the day.
Carrie-Bri was busy back at the house with the kids, Dr. Who, and henna designs on her entire hand, after Denae had given her a henna box kit for the fun of it.
Once Puck had arisen from deep slumbers of his afternoon nap, he joined his uncles (which later included Joe) outside under cold gray skies to view the installation of the white and blue lights.
He also giddily enjoyed a brief ride in his Papa’s new car from the driveway into the garage with his Nana. He continued to ask “Car, car?” for the rest of the evening, once back inside the house.
They had chocolate peanut butter pie before leaving for the evening.
And it somehow didn’t feel quite like a Saturday.
