Church Cook-In
Saturday, July 16, 2011
In which the day is oddly quiet, except for the always-and-forever rising decibels of Puck, and church is attended…
Collette woke at an astounding 8:56 that morning. Rather shocking. But she was the only one at home, perhaps for the first time since before Puck was born. Because…
OLeif had an old-day photo shoot, for which he left at around 6:45. He was on lights.
And Puck had spent the night at the house.
Meanwhile, Mom, Dad, and Linnea-Irish were leaving after breakfast for Iowa to visit the Lord-Welches and then to the Pie’s church, One Ancient Hope Presbyterian, the following morning.
So, shortly after ten, Collette arrived at the house, where…
Carrie-Bri and Puck were busy making peanut butter fudge, which later turned into chocolate-peanut butter bars.
Francis was back to burning bags of popcorn in the microwave again…
Rose had almost finished sanding down the dresser.
Puck was requesting help to draw circles, squares, and triangles in his little notebooks.
Cary Grant in The Bishop’s Wife.
Francis drove to the store for chocolate chips.
Rose left wearing a new pink lace tunic top, jeans, and Carrie’s ‘Amazon-special pearl earrings’ for the continued Harry Potter marathon, hosted by ‘Dreadlocks Guy’ and his wife. And then church.
Carrie looked over food lists for her blood type, which forbid such foods as: chicken, pork, cashews, peanut butter, and other similar staple foods. Collette was in no such luck herself; she and Carrie had the same blood type.
Earnest had been caught earlier in the week nibbling the buttons off the television remote.
And the white board read:
lamb (teary frowny face)
Florida avocados
lemon juice
protein shake
lentils
Memorial for the evening for Collette, Carrie-Bri, and Puck. Puck did his best to follow along with the songs and congregational readings. Followed by an indoor cookout, bubbles for Puck, and some Meyers-Briggs conversations for Carrie-Bri and a new friend whose father was first-generation Dutch.
It looked like a few quiet weeks coming up next…
Of course that could always change…
But, probably not…
