Coffee House

Saturday, August 15, 2009

The morning of Bing’s 23rd birthday, there was toast with butter and jelly, and fresh peaches, which made Puck very happy.
“Cut the peach-aws, Mama,” he instructed.

Another day over at the Silverspoon’s.
OLeif was playing with Curly and Izzy at the coffee house that night. So they practiced for part of the afternoon together after OLeif and Curly had made a pan of enchiladas. They were becoming quite the gourmets.

That evening, Dad came over to watch the sleeping chubby, while Linnea and Collette joined OLeif at the coffee house.
The girls took their seat at a small table with flickering candle at the end of the room, and OLeif ordered them a plate of pita chips and hummus. And a root beer for Collette.
As the music started, the coffee house became very crowded. Funny thing, coffee houses. Collette remembered a time when coffee houses essentially did not exist in St. Louis.
Linnea ordered a tall hot chocolate mounded with whipped cream, and a slice of vanilla-chocolate cheesecake.

The boys played well, and seemed to enjoy themselves.
When Curly broke a guitar string on his version of House of the Rising Sun, OLeif made an emergency run to the Rye’s apartment to borrow Evangeline’s guitar.
Many old faces had turned up. All the Orange brothers, the George sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Pennies. Mr. and Mrs. Muffins. Magnus. And Rose, of course. The Annie kids. Grandpa and Grandma Hobcoggin. And various others.
It was a nice evening, under warm breezes and night stars.
