Cold on a Monday

Monday, November 19, 2007

It was mild. Most of the leaves had fallen. The reds and golds had officially faded.

Puck had his first cold. But one couldn’t tell for most of the time. He laughed and scooted his way through the day as usual.

Puck was going places. At the house he saw a small-sized bubble gum machine sitting on the counter. He grabbed it between his chubby paws and was soon gnawing on the top. After being removed to the living room rug to scoot around, he saw another prize. Rose was on the love seat, studying.

“Sly, be sly,” Puck thought to himself.

The pile of books and papers was sitting on the floor just by the love seat. Puck whipped out his baby arms and army crawled across the rug. Before Rose could prevent him, Puck was eating the first piece of paper on the pile.

“Oh, Puck!” Rose removed the paper from his mouth. “There goes my letter to the bank. No, you can’t eat stuff.”

Later, Puck chased a large pom-pom across the floor. Whenever he nearly reached it, Rose put it somewhere else. The Puck earned his exercise for the day within the first hour of his crawl-time. Next came Linnea’s doll. In an effort not to promote the concept of cannibalism, the doll was eventually removed.

Carrie and Elizabeth were out on a long hike before work. Joe took off to the Art Museum with his pals after class. Rose sat around in the usual scrubs – gym pants, old t-shirt, unbrushed hair… Rose typically didn’t look to her appearance when in the throes of study. And it didn’t bother her, unless, of course, the doorbell rang. All the Snicketts girls had a lifetime habit of escaping to the back rooms if there was ever a knock at the door, no matter what they looked like. It was a tradition.

Puck spent the last part of his evening before supper, trying to plug his wow into the front of Collette’s computer. To no avail. He was already taking after OLeif. Some part of him was technological already.

Come later that night, Rose called in to report that she had passed Abnormal Psychology. She was closing in on her goal.
