Diana's Parties

It was a long day…
OLeif dropped off Collette at the house before picking up stamps and joining the Silverspoon’s where Puck was already lodged.

After Collette graded another of Francis’ math exams, she quickly joined Dad, Francis, and Linnea for Linnea’s third basketball game of the season. Collette sat with the three youngest English kids, where they shared packets of dinosaur fruit snacks courtesy of none other than Grandma Combs, who had also brought a BBC catalog for the Snicketts kids.

During the game, Jules asked questions about the refs’ calls and carefully examined the pendant watch hanging on the chain around Collette’s neck.

I want one of those,” he said with a grin.

And in summary, although the game was about tied at the first half, and the girls’ team had not only scored the first basket, but held the lead for most of that first half… the opposition returned to play ‘obnoxious-ball’, and subsequently, won.

Soon, the game had come to an end, and back it was again briefly to the house, where Mom, Collette, Carrie-Bri, and Rose departed for Diana’s bridal shower. There were about a dozen families represented, and a cake with large chocolate frosting roses on the top of it.

Diana was administered the game of 20 Questions, most of which she answered correctly, and was not forced to swallow more than a few enormous strawberry marshmallows in consequence of incorrect answers…

Back to the house again… where there was a brief hour or so of downtime, in which Collette and Joe discussed weddings…

At my wedding, I’m going to have the guests sit through three hours of nothing but a flute playing scales, over and over and over again,” began Joe. “And then, if they all stay, I’ll come ramp a car over the audience and land by the bride.”

And Rose, who had been up till near five in the morning the previous night at the Bear Grylls Party, had convinced Collette to clear out her old locker in the basement. Because the sooner Rose had reorganized the entire basement, she would be paid a fee, which, in turn, would purchase her hiking shoes.

In the process of overturning Collette’s young lifetime of collections, which mostly included books, notebooks, and papers… she found several treasures, including her favorite necklace which Grandma Combs had bought for her long ago: her name written in Hebrew.

The evening was reserved for joining the three oldest English girls and Velvet Candles at The Moolah, followed by a rainfall, and Momo’s in front of the fire, for a sort of bachelorette party… where everything from world travels to everyone’s crushes, was discussed.

Collette returned after 11:30 to relieve Mom of babysitting the sound-asleep Puck, as OLeif was off at a photo shoot for a make-up artist until nearly midnight.
