Domino Races

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Another cool gray day in April. Carrie-Bri’s plane left for Denver at six that morning. Mom and Grandma Combs were off for a day in Cape Girardeau together. And Collette, who seemed to have caught Francis’ annoying cold, was responsible for overseeing the Francis and Linnea shuttle to choir that afternoon.
There were more domino races for Linnea and Puck. Then Linnea made Puck fruit soup, which made him very happy until he realized how cold it was. Unfortunately, the sticky mess of fruit invited another charge of the ever-returning spring ant brigade.
And the domino races were mostly a success as Linnea worked on perfecting her skills, having been inspired by videos of enormous and brightly colored domino races on the Internet.
By the time choir spun around, Collette hurried them off under still-gray skies. She realized that after that afternoon’s rehearsal, Bluebell would have only three remaining rehearsals in her fourteen-year career. It was quickly coming to a close. And in some respects it seemed like only yesterday that Collette had just come to visit a rehearsal and heard Bluebell tell Mrs. English how she was going to go home and “murder her boys” for talking during the entire rehearsal. Good old times…
That evening, Collette looked over recipes from the Caribbean that she would make with Linnea as their trip drew nearer, including: Lime Sweet Bread and Peanut Punch from Barbados, Rum and Banana Toasted Sandwiches from the Leeward Islands, and Tostones from Puerto Rico. This was followed with a little Doctor Who as OLeif continued his studies into the evening.
