CardGals: Episode 8: cardgals.tumblr.com (iTunes Podcasts: “CardGals”)
Due to some annoying technical difficulties, Carrie was editing and refining our eighth podcast up until around the dinner hour. (What program doesn’t employ auto-save anymore?) So by the time she hung up the earbuds after about six hours of work, Mom’s macaroni casserole and homemade biscuits were ready to go.
Puck returned from more outdoor activities with neighbor kids down the street just as it was getting dark. Earlier, he had thoughts about the school day as we walked out of the building, tossing his lunch box high in the air.
“So, Puck … do you sit with your buddies during lunch?”
“Sometimes.”
“Who do you usually sit by?”
“Usually I just pick a random table and sit there. And then … the girls just pile up. They just pile up and pile up around me.”
I still don’t think he gets it.
He also explained that he had momentarily gotten himself in light trouble for disrupting the class.
“What did you do?”
“I just said, ‘WHAT THE CHEESE?!’”
Dinner had concluded. We joined Dad, Mom, and Carrie-Bri after Dad had engorged himself on the large packages of Reeses and Yorks Mom picked up for us at the store. Probably a bad idea, but it can’t be helped. Of course, Puck was still hungry.
“Mom! Can I have somethin’ to eat?!” he called from the pantry.
“Honey, you just ate dinner.”
“I’m still hungry!”
“Puck?” Carrie called back. “Do you want to try one of those truffles on the counter?”
These “truffles” were little more than a turn-your-stomach concoction of pecans, dried dates, and powdered cocoa, a souring fact Dad discovered the hard way and apparently warned Puck about in advance.
“No…” Puck informed his aunt. “I trust Grandpa. He’s the Eater of the House.”
“Oh yeah? What did Grandpa say about them?”
“He said he hated them.”
The Eater had spoken.
