Exports

Monday, January 12, 2009

Monday was over at the house again, on a cold, cold morning to work with Francis on algebra and merit badges while Carrie cooked a gourmet super-healthy lunch for Mom, and chocolate chip cookies for Joe to bring to his buddies at The Green Lantern.
Working on the Citizenship in the World merit badge:
When asked to describe a particular country’s exports affecting two foreign countries, Francis chose Ireland.
“I don’t think Ireland ships potatoes to North Korea,” Collette sighed, when Francis decided that Ireland probably did send part of their potato crop to a dictatorship half-way across the world.
Leaving Ireland, to explain an example concerning Canada’s exports, Francis suggested that perhaps Canada exported ice.
“Francis,” said Collette, “there’s a maple leaf on Canada’s flag. Does that give you a clue? What do they export?”
Francis grinned. “Trees?”
It was an interesting study session.
Rose later joined them, arriving from work, grumpy that Puck was napping in her room. She lounged herself on the counter in her work uniform, all black, and commenced to act as the peanut gallery while Francis continued absent-minded algebraic calculations.
After another half hour at the gym, helping Francis and Linnea with their basketball, Francis had a super-fast haircut at the old Hair Saloon.
And for a treat, there were KFC boxed meals for dinner.
