Father's Day I
Saturday, June 19, 2010
In Texas, it was Relevance’s 27th birthday.
In St. Louis, it was time to celebrate Father’s Day for Theodore, and sort of Izzy’s 17th birthday (albeit two days early).
Firstly, Collette had ended up staying the night at the house, because of the late hour of return, sleeping on the couch, with Carrie-Bri and Linnea-Irish stashed on the floor beside her. For some reason, Carrie did better sleeping on the wood floor.
But not before Collette had been caught up on any significant news, of which there was always some, including that Rose had been. ‘asked out for the fourth time by that guy at work; Aaaaaaaah!’, and the announcement that ‘Buddha’ the toad had returned.
“Yeah,” Francis was saying. “Rose had him on a heat lamp with a towel around it, like he was at a spa, listening to mood music.”
The next morning, when Collette woke, Rose was getting dressed to leave with Alfonso, Velvet, Jimmy Dean, and some other old co-workers for Elephant Rocks, barbecue, Johnson’s Shut-Ins, and Applebee’s.
“Rose, don’t you want to bring some Gatorade to replenish your electrolytes?” Carrie asked her.
“Naw,” she replied, “I’ll replenish those with steak!”
Over at the house, Izzy wrapped Theodore’s Father’s Day gift with an Indian blanket and a gold bow.
“What’s that?” Puck asked him.
“A tool box.”
“Is it a box to fix cars?”
“It’s a box to fix everything!”
“Alright!” Puck replied with enthusiasm.
To further celebrate, they headed out for a viewing of Toy Story 3 in the afternoon. And although Collette didn’t like the end of the story… which was typical of most stories for her… Puck had a great time. And he was given a Toy Story bucket of popcorn by his daddy a Toy Story cup of water. No soda for the tyke. At least not yet.
Back at the Silverspoon’s after banana pudding for everyone (except for Izzy, who was off to work), and a pop-up thunderstorm, there was a bit of a meltdown for Puck, increased by the continued cough and congestion. But the little man calmed down and enjoyed going down for the night with his Toy Story bucket and cup.
That night, OLeif and Collette watched Bear Grylls until 9:00 before hitting the hay. It had been a long, but good, weekend.
