The end of the VBS week had arrived.

And in interesting news of the day — Izzy was leaving for Budapest with the team from Grace Community Chapel. Two weeks of teaching English to Hungarian children.

Water wars at VBS.

Puck eagerly ran out with the other thirteen children to gather around the sprinklers, hoses, sponges in buckets of water, and squirt guns. He manned as many of those as possible. Collette couldn’t help but laugh when she saw him out there in his green swim shorts next to all the other boys. He was ten shades whiter than any of them, and the only one to have a pudgy stomach lopped over his shorts. The other boys were all tan and ribs. Signs of what was to come in later years as well no doubt.

Francis, Linnea, and the other youth were also out to join the fun. And Collette got a cup of cold water poured down her back by Francine Nickels.

To end the day, it was announced that the children had beaten their goal of raising $700, by raking in an astounding $723.95 for the Alexandrian preschool.

There was no question that, if Collette had been home that morning, she would have been watching the Portugal-Brazil game. However, she settled for second best and switched to the Chile-Spain match that afternoon. Rooting for Spain. And though it was a win, Chile still made it through to the next round because of previously won matches.

In the mid-afternoon, Collette and Puck hitched a ride with Francis and Mom to clothes shop for Francis. Although Collette and Puck waited in the car for Puck to play with his play house. And then they drove a big circle around St. Peters, hunting for a no-longer-produced tornado siren that Francis wanted to see. But they couldn’t find it.

Back for meatball sandwiches.

Church to bring OLeif his violin for his rehearsal.

Closing ceremony, in which Puck did not participate, as predicted… Always expect the worst, never surprised…

Cookie and ice cream social.

The end.

Or so Collette thought… About 9:30, when OLeif returned from Home Depot with a new water filter… a ‘thing’ came running up and jumped in his lap.

Look what followed me home!” OLeif exclaimed.

Oh. No.” Was Collette’s only reply.

OLeif was up till after eleven, making it a bed on the patio out of an old sleeping bag, feeding it chicken, and talking in video chat with Rose about ‘it’.

In better news, Collette ended her evening with the discovery of a line of Egyptian pharaohs in the family. Surprise after surprise…
