Fresh From Dublin

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Carrie and Lucia were returning on the 4:33 plane from Dublin, via Toronto. For a return home treat, while shopping, Linnea found two cans of Steak ‘n Shake chili at the grocery store for Carrie.
Collette was busy listening to the soundtrack from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Silk Road Journeys. Though the face of modern China had not presented itself well via its government, Collette still enjoyed their music.
Late that afternoon, Mom, Collette, Rose, Francis, Linnea, and Puck left for the airport. (Joe was at work). Rose was pleased to teach Puck how to say “eyeball” on the way.
“Eyeball!” he said happily.
They got off the plane in comfy clothes and unwashed hair.
“It was all green, too green,” said Carrie. “Little white cottages, little churches… not my thing. You would have loved it, Mom. But London was amazing.”
Pub crawl, the big concert, London, Glasgow, Dublin…
“They drink so much over there,” said Carrie. “Lucia and I would get to the pubs early for dinner to avoid the dinner rush. And they would already be drinking, at, like, 4:00!”
Carrie had brought back a necklace with a clover pressed under a glass pendant for Mom, fudge for Collette…
“It kind of tastes like candy corn,” said Carrie.
(It did.) An oversized zip-up sweat shirt for Puck which read “Ireland” across the front. And a box of chocolates to share, which included a chili flavor, Earl Gray, etc., and a lemon sorbet which Collette tried and shared a tiny piece with Puck. He was most appreciative.
Puck was very happy with his sweatshirt and patted it in his lap on the way back to the house.
After they left the airport, Aunt Petunia and Lucia joined them back at the house for burgers and pictures while Collette and Puck took off for home for a late dinner for Puck.
