Frozen Lands

Friday, January 16, 2009

Friday was another arctic day. Two degrees at the time that Collette woke from a long winter’s nap. And the day didn’t promise to rise about seventeen degrees. The whole country seemed to be plunged in the coldness.
Carrie-Bri, who was preparing to film an interview for the position in Australia, had decided to dye her hair nearer to her original color. The first attempt, however, was predictably disastrous. Carrie always did have odd hair. After a brown dye had been applied, it strangely turned a shade of dark, dark blue. To remedy the hair plight, she turned to Walgreen’s once again.
Meanwhile, it was Mom’s, Francis’, and Linnea’s turn to visit the dentist, including Grandma Snicketts, who they picked up on the way out to Clayton. Fortunately for all of them, no cavities were found.
Later that afternoon, Puck had a crazy good time taking wild piggy-back rides with his Aunts Rose and Lila through the house. Rose had just returned from work after a purchase of tea (for the weekend in Nashville) and a set of carved aluminum rings.
It was so amazingly cold. Iowa City, Linnea was jealous to hear, had received a record low of 29 below. Snow had returned to St. Louis, but only as a faint snowglobe, petaling from the skies. Like tiny spiral galaxies swashing above the pavement.
