Early-riser. 5:40. Puck had spent most of the night bundled up on the couch after he had experienced a temporarily uncomfortable stomachache from good, albeit greasy, grill food the previous evening, to which he was unaccustomed. But he was no worse for wear. And his cheery self was eagerly ready for a glass of cold milk and a bowl of hot oatmeal.
On the road by 6:35 with a travel essay on Argentina.
Meanwhile, back on the ranch… Rose placed calls in during her breaks to inquire after measurements of ceiling tiles in the basement for renovations.
And it was time for a visit to Costco. After waiting in the car at QT, the credit union, second hand shop, and Hobby Lobby, Puck was eager to be released to the world of the shopping cart, where he immediately began arranging pomegranate juice and apple juice, cream cheese, etc. Until… he was lifted out as the cart reached higher capacity. He ran straight for the shelving of wine and clasped at a topaz-shaded bottle. It was as though he just couldn’t help himself, it was so beautiful. He had to have one. Collette scolded him and replaced it.
“You know better than to touch things,” she chastised him.
“Startin’ early,” an older man chuckled as he passed.
Interesting news so far of the week: invited to Esther’s wedding were two close friends of her fiance, Michael W. Smith and Stephen Curtis Chapman.
Meanwhile, Carrie-Bri and Francis were off to see to putting Puck to bed, while OLeif picked up Collette by five for a surprise going-away party for the Popples’ girls at the Eight’s house. It wasn’t much of a surprise anymore by the time they arrived an hour and a half late to watch everyone play Settlers of Catan over homemade pizza and homemade snickerdoodles, while the babies were passed around, Henri and OLeif laughed over creating a Sunday School lesson out of Jude 8-9, and several amusing memories of the Popples girls were shared, including how Sunrise could recite so many numbers of pi, and Jesus’ genealogy.
They returned to find that Carrie had discovered Collette’s long-lost keys, buried deep within the bowels of Puck’s bag.
