Gargling Derby
Thursday, July 14, 2005
As is turned out, the shuttle launch was postponed till Saturday. The crew had already been strapped down ready for the flight when it was called off, due to technical difficulties. Better late than sorry, Collette thought. Although it must have been a terrible disappointment for them.
But at work that day, things were brighter for Collette. She had been experiencing a rather bad sore throat over Wednesday and Thursday. In fact, she had been gargling with apple cider vinegar on Wednesday in the kitchen and Rose had come in to join her.
“Really, Rose,” Collette said, “I wasn’t expecting an audience.”
“Well, you got one,” Rose laughed, sitting at the bar stool, waiting for the next gulpful.
“Gargle, gargle.”
“Eeeew, it’s flying everywhere,” Rose laughed. “Yuck!”
“Gargle, gargle.”
“I give you an eight on that one.”
“Gargle, gargle, splash.”
“Eeeew! You missed!”
Rose was red in the face from laughing. She passed out several tens later.
“Yay!” She announced. “Another ten!”
But at work, Ivy decided to take her out for lunch to the Chinese buffet by Pizza Street. It was a lovely place with vases and ivy and chandeliers, paper lanterns and such… And Collette was even inspired to try a fried scallop which was fishy but not terrible, as well as green beans with soy sauce, which were not as good. But the biscuits were excellent, fried and dusted with sugar. However, she only took two, attempting to be healthy.
Later that evening, she and OLeif used the gift certificate to Krieger’s from Mercy for OLeif’s birthday. And there was a movie on spies at the Regal Theater in St. Louis Mills – “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”. They enjoyed it. It was a good spy movie. And meanwhile, there were other plans to see “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, Monday night with friends, including the Pie kids and Elizabeth.
