Grade School Wow Factor

The Christmas tree and decorations were boxed up. Love Tap’s paperwork paid and license plates installed. Puck filled with grilled cheese. Driving out to the Silverspoon’s for the afternoon.

Puck studied the Oriental Trading catalog intently from the back seat of the car. He had never been so overwhelmed before with stuff … so much cheap stuff in one catalog.

“There’s so many knick-knacks and jiggadables – I want to buy some today! There’s so many little goo-gahs in here. Twenty-one cents only! Ah, man! ‘Bring home a bounty of booty.’ You can say that again! I love this store. That kid is loaded with goo-gahs.”

This ramble continued as he carefully considered the gangster hats and the rubber balls, the treasure chests of loot, and the beach balls available in packs of 100. A child’s dream come true. All that Christmas cash was burning a hole in his pocket. We told him to hold out the standard two weeks and see if he still wanted it. So long to wait.

In the aftermath of a long holiday season with family, the Silverspoon house was a little more quiet when we arrived in the early afternoon. Pork and sweet potatoes on the stove. Theodore napping; woke up to join Oxbear in getting the oil changed in the Mazda. Puck drew sheets of paper in bananas, strawberries, and cereal boxes.

Six PM: Bible study. Fifteen kids rounded up in the basement with a space heater; I include myself and Oxbear in that total.

Afterwards, I stuffed myself with fat Costco madeleines by the fire. Snickers joined me on a corner of the rug, napping, not completely displeased with the company.
