Happy 13!

7 Octobro, 2010

Linnea-Irish had become thirteen overnight. The little freckled pixie, who was known by ‘Irish’ now, to many of her friends about town… So now no more ‘kids’. Just two teenagers and three kids in their early twenties.

Collette heard OLeif picked up by his parents just a few minutes shy of seven o’clock, set for three and a half days down in music country. He was scheduled to attend a concert of Curly’s that same night.

During breakfast, Puck downed the warm milk, oatmeal, and applesauce while mumbling something about ‘phytoplankton’ between courses…

The weather was reverting back to Indian summer… temperatures in the 80’s. But the colors of the trees were still beginning to change, if only a little.

Meanwhile…
Puck was reviewing the music for the upcoming children’s choir Christmas program at church. He seemed rather intrigued. Although Collette was uncertain as to whether he had actually yet croaked out any of the tunes with the other children. He was certainly not much of a singer yet.
Rumor had it that he, and all of the other three and four year-olds in the choir, were going to pose as angels for the program. That had all the marks of anticipated hilarity.

In other news, Collette heard rumors from Great Britain that they were sending one of their Scottish players to join AC STL in the spring…

Luke and Leia arrived at the usual 12:40. And after three hours of the usual level nine of noise and bouncing rubber balls and strollers occasionally careening out of control down the streets, it was time for them to leave.

It was one of those rarest of rare days that Collette and Puck had actually been at home with vehicle at their behest. And so, once Luke and Leia had departed, Collette and Puck lit out for the house in several hours of pre-celebration with the family for Linnea’s birthday. The actual event would take place on Sunday afternoon after everyone had returned from various places about Missouri and Tennessee…

Over at the house, Puck employed himself in learning badminton with Francis and Linnea.
Mom prepared potato soup with ham from scratch, at Linnea’s request.
Rose was complaining about a stink bug sitting outside her window.
Carrie-Bri was trying to convince Rose to wear pink… mission impossible.
Collette repaired Carrie’s remaining dreadlocks with metallic gold thread.
Soccer in the back yard for Joe and Linnea before dinner…
And Joe brought in a large box from the car. Grandma Combs had fixed him a nice lunch and had sent him home with a gift for the family: a large kerosene box lantern for the back patio. Puck also had a good deal of fun playing in the empty box. He marched around the yard wearing it like a robot.
Collette and Puck were obliged to leave before the ice cream cake, which Francis had DQ ice with “Happy Birthday Irish” in red 90’s icing. But there would be slices reserved for the following afternoon.

A return home in the night of a new moon for comedy, fruit roll-ups, Wheat Thins, Welch’s grape juice — all courtesy of Joe — and Joe’s first viewing of The Importance of Being Earnest, another success… one of the best.
