In which OLeif begins his 28th birthday in a pattern of randomly predictable events…

Puck woke up two hours early that morning, excited about one thing.
“Can I have my chocolate milk now, Mama? But, Daddy, don’t waste any of it, or else I will be un-very happy with you.”
Thunder.
“I heard the rain dropping outside my window,” said Puck.

OLeif was off work for his 27th birthday.
The day began with a late breakfast of omelets.
Library.
Exchange the car once again while Puck followed around in flip-flops, blue plaid shorts, astronaut t-shirt, a lidded cup of red grapes from QT, and a copy of Over the Hedge from the library.
“I bet our car is excited, Daddy,” he said, “because he hasn’t been used in awhile.”
Seminary; textbooks for the summer.
Trader Joe’s for a large bag of cashews, and another of pistachios. Puck picked out a Greek yogurt, and ‘Joe’s coffee’ for OLeif.
Chick-fil-A and a box of Jack-in-the-Box mini churros.
“Why did you eat all of it already, Daddy?” Puck asked. “I wanted more and more.”

In the afternoon, Puck was deposited with Linnea as chief babysitter while OLeif and Collette attended…
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Tradition. Much better than the last installments, and maybe mostly because Penelope Cruz had replaced Keira Knightly. That was a good start…

Back at the house, where Carrie was preparing bacon and blueberry pancakes for dinner. And Puck had been given a lightbulb bottle, which he had picked out from Hobby Lobby in his travels of the afternoon.
Rose had returned from work to veg a little over a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos.

Home.
OLeif read Puck to sleep from his new seminary texts.
Penn Station.
OLeif’s birthday indulgence had ended.
